do not switch off

video installation

The installation was conceived following the writing of a short story in which
the protagonist is a memory. The story depicts a future equipped with the
teleportation technology that humans use on a daily basis. As time goes by,
something strange happens to upset the habits of this utopian society. All
over the world, bodies are suddenly losing consciousness. It’s too late by
the time the humans realise the limits of matter. To teleport, bodies have to
decompose and then reconstitute themselves. Over time, this process
impairs their memory, feelings and senses. Humans gradually become
bodiless intelligences, inhabiting the invisible.

In the installation Do not switch off, the story is told through a video
emanating from a video projector placed under a tarpaulin. The heat of the
machine allows the light plastic veil to float and take on a form similar to
the firmament. If the memory projection is switched off, the installation
collapses.
